Nonprofit professionals face a distinctive set of opportunities and challenges. Moreover, the nonprofit sector has experienced important changing economic, social and political trends over the last decade.

The Duke University Nonprofit Management Intensive Track Program explores key areas of nonprofit management, lead by established practitioners and scholars within the nonprofit arena. Together, they address what it takes to rise above today’s challenges and become a successful nonprofit leader.

Hundreds of participants from across the country take part in this Intensive Track Program each year–the Vail Centre is proud to bring Duke University to the Vail Valley for a custom Rocky Mountain section of the certificate program.

During their week in Vail participants will examine their strategic plan, and learn to utilize a variety of business planning tools to set a course for increased impact.

While the concept of measuring performance is not new, practical ways to implement actual measures are. Participants will design performance measures tailored to their nonprofits, including strategies for data collection and analysis.

Changes in the economic environment require that nonprofits approach their work in new ways. Participants will learn current best practices proven to result in greater sustainable fundraising success. They then apply these principles and strategies to their own organizations.

This is followed by an in-depth investigation of the grant management process, as well as, the nuances of nonprofit financial management. Participants will learn to make an impact while also fulfilling the expectations of their funders, donors, and the IRS.

Participants who complete the 6 day intensive program will receive a Certificate in Nonprofit Management from Duke University. Pre-work, including reading and preparatory exercise are required. These assignments will be provided by Duke University two months prior to the program start date..
